ADD to Life

Jun112009

Last week, I had a great time presenting my workshop “I’ll Stop Procrastinating…Someday!” Breaking out of the Cycle with DIRECT Goal Setting at the Metrowest Procrastinators Meetup. I poudly introduced myself as the Queen of Procrasti Nation; a title I have held for quite some time now!

There were over 20 members present. All came to the workshop ready to set some goals and to move forward with making steps towards reaching them.
What makes us put off until tomorrow what we should have done last week? Is it fear of failure, overwhelm, busyness or maybe it’s just not that important to you. –Or is it?
It’s possible that procrastination is your call to action! When you DO the stuff you are putting off, you may see yourself and your abilities from a whole new perspective!
What have you been putting off?

When you do this, how will it change your life?

Call me and let’s talk about action steps you can take.

According to the National Instutute of Mental Health (NIMH) “ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity (over-activity).”

The NIMH States that ADHD has three subtypes:

  • Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive
  • Predominantly inattentive
  • Combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive

ADHD has many symptoms and affects each person differently. Working one on one with a personal professional ADHD Coach can help you to build strategies and build skills that can help you personally. Find out more about ADHD on their website.

When ADD teens head to College, life often becomes overwheming. The intention is to do well and  the studies show that 1/3 of students with ADD do not get through their first semester. The sudden freedom coupled with increased responsibility often times is a disaster for a young adult with ADD.

One - Learn about the ADD Brain

When you have ADD you learn differently than the average student. Linier thinking does not work for you. Learn how to be you and be efficient!

Two - Connect with student support services

Through the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) colleges are required to accomedate students with ADD. Connect with this service and receive the help you need.

Three - Hire a coach

When you have an ADHD Coach, you have a support system to carry you through all aspects of college life.

Four - Take your medication

Get into a routine of taking your meds the same time every day, exactly how it is intended.

Five - Sleep

Again, it’s routine. Get to bed on a schedule; the same time each night.

Six - Exercise

Get 30 minutes of intense exercise each day.

Seven - Eat

Eat regular nutritous meals, focusing on protien, vitamins and Omega -3.

Eight - Be aware of addictive behaviors

Alcoholism and drug addition often co-occur with ADD. Be aware of this fact and avoid being caught up in the college party scene.

Desciding to make a committment to yourself and your education is a turning point in your life. If you are there right now, I would love to support you every step of the way!
