Beat the Clock

old clock
I know I’m dating myself here, but how many remember the game show Beat the Clock?  On this show, the host would set a timer and the contestant would be asked to complete some task before the allotted time ran out. If the clock was stopped by completing the task, the contestant would win money and prizes; if it wasn’t, he’d be kicked off the show. Such is life with ADD!

Many days, those with ADD feel like we are playing this game and we’re very close to being kicked off the show – or voted off the island – wait, that’s a different show! We’re running as fast as we can, the timer is ticking and the audience is watching. Some are cheering us on, while others don’t think we’ll make it.

In order to win at this game, you need to know the rules:

  • How long do I have for this task?
  • What needs to be done?
  • How will I do it?
  • What happens when it is done?
  • What happens if it’s not done?

And create strategies for playing:

  • What systems can I put into place?
  • What might get in my way?
  • How can I overcome this obstacle?

In order to create a “game plan,” you may need some time to get organized and some support to help you. This is how ADHD coaching helps. I meet with clients weekly (many via telephone coaching) and help them to create strategies for staying “in the game.” When my clients Beat the Clock they win lots of prizes, including:

  • improved productivity at work
  • better grades
  • more fulfilling relationships
  • less clutter
  • and more organization

You too, can Beat the Clock! Give me a call to see how coaching can help!
